I believe the world needs more art for art's sake. In other words, we need to foster a culture that values non-commercial art. This blog, featuring my poetry, is my humble contribution in helping to change the zeitgeist.

Sunlight gleaming through the
Canopy of the forest.
I am alone with my thoughts
And the sounds of nature.

Every step is unique from any
Other that has been taken; you
Can feel it between your toes and
Beneath the arches of your feet.

In all of history throughout
The world, nobody has left
An impression quite like
Your own.

There is nothing
More beautiful
Than the truth…

A self-evident
Act of courage,
Opposing the
Unconscious
Accolades of fear.

Open eyes
Do not ensure
Seeing things
For what they
Truly are.

The truth
Has been staring,
Unabashedly.
Yet we do not
Feel its gaze.

There is nothing
More beautiful
Than the truth…

It is easy
To look
Right past
Without knowing
It is there.

Technological
Opiates haven’t
Blinded us
Or deformed
Our minds.

We have
Merely forgotten
How it feels
To see through
A disguise.

Forget about your dreams
And get caught in the daily drag.
Arrive home from work
And pour yourself a drink-
It’s much easier than
Swallowing your pride.

Forget about whatever
Was meant to be;
Destiny is a destination,
Diligently disguised-
Once you have arrived
You are at departure’s door.

You have chosen servility
Over honing your craft.
Now you haven’t the spirit
To sing your heart out-
All you can muster
Is a dispassionate croon.

Growing pains
In your twenty-somethings;
The curse of a white male
Is an over-inflated sense of self,
But life in a big city
Will quickly squash
Any notion you may have
Of serendipity.

Nothing is written in the stars.
It is up to us
To connect the dots
And fill in the spaces between.
What can you
Make out for yourself?

We sleep on two
Sides of the bed
With little space
Between ourselves.

My pillow is
Hard and yours soft,
So we never
Dream together.

We always wake
At different times
But we can feel
The other turn.

When I wait up
For you, it’s like
I’m still asleep;
A kiss goodnight.

What will happen when
The bees stop buzzing?
It will be too late
For our gas-guzzling
Egos to redeem
Themselves and be restored-
To that self-righteous
Place that lies at our core.

Rising waters, distinct
From the proverbial flood,
Will turn our industry
Into black, forsaken mud;
Cleansing the garden
Of all god’s creations.
We will have lost our chance
For harmonious jubilation.

Keep your eye
On the prize
And do not fall for
Temptation’s disguise.

She dresses beautifully,
Done-up in fine display;
But lustful men are
Often led astray.

Daily toil can numb
Your fingers and mind,
But wanton gratification
Will leave you blind.

Remember what
You are working towards
Or you will lose your drive
In moving forward.

Frozen features
Betray yourself;
Indignant insistence
Will not convince
Those who stand
Face to face.

Dumb-struck
By beginners’ luck,
-It is too late
To pretend
That you don’t
Give a fuck.

Waking up
Before the sun rises,
In hope that
The competition realizes
Too late;
And so, I’ll get ahead
Of the daily grinders,
Fasting for their bread.
I refuse to be
A part of the rat race-
Forever. I’d rather
Suffocate in outer space
Than stay here
Working for the man.
It’s time to buckle down
And forget about my tan.

Critics be warned:
A one-sided opinion
Is a double-edged sword.

Inflicting pain and speaking
Your mind at every turn
Will never lead to happiness.

The only path to power
And peacefulness is
Arrived at from within.

Look to yourself-
And do not let your eyes
Stray for too long.
